i wouldnt mind donating or giving ssh access but where are your documents, instructions and all the other info related to getting this running?

DeleteI got an ATV3 for Christmas and other than plugging it in and doing the initial setup, I haven't done anything with it. I watched the video, but didn't really understand what I was supposed to glean from it. I saw you expand the files, but I'm not sure what I was supposed to do with them. There was no sound, so maybe that was the problem? If it's seeders you need, I've already started the torrent.

O.K the idea with the files,
Deletewill normally you would extract the encryption keys from the keybag file while its in the root Dir on a ios device by uploading a few programs to the root Dir and running them from terminal it gives you the keys to decrypt the ipsw file allowing you to modify re-encrypt and then upload the ipsw for a modified restore XBMC for example.
Unfortunately extracting the keys out side of the root Dir is a challenge as it must use the processors name as part of the decryption process we have people working on this.
Mike Davies shoot me an email with what you nrrf. Not experienced with apple hardware at all but I am stupid experienced with Linux and android so I'll have a crack at it. That and I'm involved with a lot of security software and techniques as well as have a macbook. Shoot me an email. If u need it let me know. I don't know how this comment thing works as far as authentication and stuff.
ReplyDeletehay OK, do you think you could modify the program xcode on mac PC probably a long shot there. Also I wanted to try a few attacks using backtrack 5 but haven't had a lot of time. For example the man in the middle attack or injection attacks I think its a good one to explore and any others you come up with You would need a alfa usb wifi or one the can be put into mon mode let me know if you can or not thanks and please share any results

Also my m8 Ben working on the keybag file thinks he's found a way to get the keys ill let u know later could be false hope. As far as I understand xcode uses some system file as well so my thoughts was if someone could modify the code to be more of a emulator we could simulate the tv3 with it. but to be honest would be a lot of work but would serve for future purpose as well is there a coder or scriptwriter here that could help be a cool project.

ReplyDeleteIf you are on the same WiFi network as the ATV3 wouldn't you be able to sniff the traffic with Backtrack? Isn't a WiFi network like a "hubed" network and not switched.
ReplyDeleteI think mike got the files from basically this way using backtrack if I remember right. He emailed me today to say he's removed the file link on Kat.com just because he was worried it may cause issues for himself but he's found a way we all can easily get the files with out downloading them. Said he will make a video on how to do this guess he will update you guys later today.

ReplyDeleteProblem is that most of the jail breakers that are well knowen prefer to do iPhones and iPad as more popular and they also get a lot of money from likes of cydia . The Apple TV has no benefits to attract them as no money to be made from them nothing is free . There are some people who just like a challenge like mike

I can now make the atv 3 take the ramdisc of the atv2 with out problems just working on a few other mods then ill do more and test so think we getting close getting files into the atv3 is the hardest part will except for gaining full root assess of-coarse

ReplyDeleteHi there sorry guys have been flat out between work and working on the atv3. Replying to as many emails as I can. I have three I.T Guys working on this as well, they prefer not to be known for there own reasons. Apple has done a good job locking the atv3 down but not totally we have had some good results but there is still much work to be done. All I can say is we are working very hard on this and have put a lot of our own money into it and time.

hey mike i have tryed using ifunbox for my apple tv 3 but it says there is nothing connected when the apple tv 3 is connected though could you help me out with this

I would say It could take years to find the key even if we had a handshake to test against but could be worth trying.
I will look into the ighashgpu a bit more as I have never used or herd of ighashgpu sounds like a good idea just wish we had a super computer to use lol

ReplyDeletewe have some good results from many different ways but after the beta version turned to custard I am being more careful on the info that is released as there was many problem's costing me a fair bit in replacements from damaged atv3's so it was scraped. I am working hard on finding safe ways for people to explore some exploits. In the mean time I'm trying to focus on root Assess for people once we have that the sky's the limit I'm hoping that many of our followers are still working on the key-bag file as I think It can be cracked and keys extracted by using a ios device with the same possessor. we have got a lot of people working on this so its just a matter of time and effort. It's one of those things all of a sudden we will have it beat. But until then keep tuned I am very sorry we haven't been able to get this out yet but we are more determinant than ever . If you cant wait we have shown ways to use the ipad or iphone 4s and above to stream xbmc to the atv3 but I will not except this for obvious reasons but it does work so its not all bad.

There are many of us who would like to help. Some for the challenge, some just to have a jail broken atv3. However, even for those of us who are highly technical, this is new territory, so we tend to sit back and let others do it. Yet, if a bit of time was dedicated to helping us to hit the ground running, your time spent on explaining what you need us to do and how would pay back the time in having a greater number of technical people helping toward the project.
ReplyDeleteI am most willing to get involved and I have over 20 years in-depth IT experience in so many different areas but specializing in network forensics and management. Problem is I am brand new to the ATV and not much experience in apple products at all, just used them in the departments that needed them. I can learn quickly, received an ATV3 for Xmas and can't wait for a jailbreak. I would like to contribute technically so I am starting by going through all of Mike's videos. Any suggestions after that is appreciated. I think I can be of assistance with proper guidance. I have a lot of free time at the moment as well. This could change at any time but at the moment.....

Anyway, I have one question I feel obligated to ask. One of the main reasons I feel I need to ask it is because of all the warnings I have seen on this site. All of my research tells me that this is THE site for ATV jailbreaks but with so many scams out there how do we know this is not the same. Hope that doesn't make anyone too angry.

It is very hard to find anyone with apple ios background but people seem to think they need this to start working on unlocking a ios product don't be fooled yes the atv3 is tricky but remember we are dealing with a processor ram and storage and operating system it is a mini computer so as far as I am concerned anyone with technical,electronic and computer hardware software background have the right stuff to working on this don't just sit back and wait for some one else to do it have some input as many heads is better than one.

Delete2 Months ago i have been contacted by a fake company called Chip Jailbreak Group with many "IT specialists".
They offered to develop the atv 3 jailbreak software for me. The total cost of the project was estimated at $3500 and i had to pay $1000 in advance.
Of course I realized later that I have been scammed and moved on...
I decided to keep the website and run it as an open project where everybody can join.
Anyone that shows progress on this project will get publisher access.
Hopefully getting a lot of people with experience in a single place will finally bring the result we all want.

Mike - Agree with your thoughts and I am definitely not scared of anything technical. As is the case with most of us (I would bet), tearing things apart to see how and why they worked or what else they could do is why we are here in the first place. Also helps that my ATV3 was a gift and from what I can tell I can safely restore the ATV3 if I do happen to mess up, as long as I follow some pretty basic cautionary procedures. Anyway, that is why I am starting with your Videos. We will see what I might be able to contribute technically after I get a little more comfortable with it. Besides, it's a brand new gizmo and I wanna play with it.
John - Thanks for that quick bit of history and for your cautionary tale. Please don't take any offense or feel I questioned your intentions at all. I want to add an additional thank you and nod of respect now that I know some of the things you have been doing for the cause. Getting the right group of people working together on something they really want is a good way to get it done.

Yes there are scams out there be warned and be careful, We are truly legit and are working on this project with many other people I guess there will always be people that are skeptical and disbelievers but all I can say is we are all working hard on this project and It is no scam.

DeleteMakes me wonder if some kind of $$$ reward to the winning group would get us all to a JB sooner. Maybe something like a kickstarter that expires after a certain number of days (allowing the unclaimed money to be refunded). Just a thought on getting more good hackers working on this.

I have been portscanning and trying to access trough the open ports. Mike, is this the way to go, or should i place my focus elsewhere? ReplyDeleteOK we need someone with a A5 apple device running ios 5 may have to downgrade to get this to work. we want someone try extract the atv 3 keys via another A5 device the idea is to upload the kernel and keybag files from the atv3 that I have provided to you A5 device running ios 5 then upload these 3 files

also any files you change backup and don't reboot your device until you put its original file's back on other wise it wont boot and you will have to restore
I would love to downgrade. Sadly. I dont have the shsh blobs from before ios 6.0 (bought it there). :( So we will need someone else who saved the shsh blobs for ios 5.0, who is willing to play around in order to help, as i see it.

ReplyDeleteI know you don't have a ETA for the jailbreak but would you recommend buying a ATV3 now and wait for the jailbreak if you're not far off? Or buy a ATV2 which is almost double the price, I'm not in any major rush but would like to have it in my house in at least a month?

ReplyDeleteIf you don't care about 1080p go for the atv2 but for the price they go for a mini pc starts looking better and the atv2 has little ram and can be laggy As for the atv3 If you have a Ipad you can install xbmc on that and stream to the atv3 and works well so if you have a i pad and don't mind using another device get the atv3

ReplyDeleteCheck out the Beamer app. It can stream any video to the Apple TV and even encodes 5.1 surround sound. It does cost some money, but it is worth it until Xbmc can be installed onto Apple TV. I just wish it had a better user interface.
DeleteI find the ipads with xbmc installed is good when using airplay mirroring its really good and free as long as you have a ipad
DeleteIve been successfully using Air Parrot to mirror my laptop on the TV. It has an extended and mirrored view. Extended uses your TV as a secondary display. I find streaming tv shows in full screen doesn't work on Extended. But on mirror mode its smooth and seamless.

Sorry guys have been bis working on a few things on the atv3 I do fair have just wasted the last few dyas but I do know what doesn't work lol. hay the more people working on this the better we have lots doing such as that but we all trying different stuff so If you have some idea's please share any info you may have I have provided some file's and videos on how to decrypt the ram-disc file but we still haven't had much luck on getting the keys .

ReplyDeleteno I love that program suit gpu hacking is good stuff but you need a .cap file or something to test keys against so I'm not sure how that will work If you know of a way we can use this please share I have some powerful pc's i can use not supercomputers but latest with 3way gpus high end stuff so let me know if you find away to use the gpu for decryption thanks

I would appreciate some help with a problem, I am unable to download the shsh blobs using tinyumbrella. First think I came across was a signing issue, I had not yet updated to the latest software update. I updated the software and proceeded to try again with the same result. I have also used ifunbox a bit and haven't seen anything like the file system I have seen in the linked videos. I would appreciate assistance and maybe an explanation.

ReplyDeleteThanks to the GPU cracking idea we have managed to get a semi-working DFU patch here. It's also shown an interesting entropy issue with the restore that suggest a generic package is possible.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment we have a nightly XBMC working in tethered mode but can get some persistence in the root file system but need advice from more experienced ATV hackers as we have reached our knowledge limits of the device.
Maybe you guys can ask for help from Evasi0n, Sn0wbreeze, Firecore etc. Congrats on making it to tethered!

ReplyDeleteGave up on the ATV3 jailbreak and got a Jynxbox, it works PERFECT and come installed with XBMC already on it and plays everything. If and when they get through jerking everybody around on the jailbreak I might come back to the ATV3 to just try it.

When I jailbroke my iphones everytime a new jailbreak came out, I donated $100, when Evasion finally gave us the JB for the iphone 5 I donated the same amount knowing exactly all the benefits that came with it and all the money I will save on apps. I have an ATV 3 sitting in its original box waiting for the JB, if it happens then u guys will surely see my donation, if not I will just give away my ATV3 and just purchase an atv 2 JB and fully loaded for $200 bucks. I wish u guys the best of luck on completing this task, wish I could help in the technical part of all this but don't know how.

I have a 4 year old that navigates xbmc, Netflix, and Hulu on the atv2 and the others just don't have an easy native app yet for her too navigate. ReplyDeleteIm steaming xbmc to my atv3 works like a charm with airparrot, resx and using my iphone as the remote with remote mouse . Im patiant . Aplle still is the best. Every thing works with each other.
ReplyDeleteyou can use airplay and airplay mirroring on any windows system will any OS that iTunes is compatible with all you need to do is download iTunes don't install it just right click on iTunes and extract to a folder you will see a file called Bonjour64.msi install this file then the best way use it is in xbmc go into settings and turn on airplay done

anyways i found this while trying to hack airplay on the atv3 i find installing some files in itunes is helping with the atv3 hack but as soon as you install itunes full locks right down good luck

I am trying to use airparrot to mirror my vista 64 bit amd quad core machine running XBMC to my ATV3. Everything is connected over 1000BASET but the ATV3 is of course maxed at 100MB. I have not been able to get it to where I could consider it watchable. Video quality is very poor and often encounter stuttering in audio or video. If there is anyway you can help me out it would be REALLY appreciated. I do a pretty good job of getting access to my XBMC library and addons from my PS3 using PS3 Media Server on my system but I lose the interface that way, and some of the metadata and trakt like features. Really appreciate any help.

I got lost at a couple points of your reply, assuming that is you. It almost sounds like you might know of a way to do this using Bonjour. Not real technical here but networking is my thing so I can figure it out. Unfortunately I do not have any A5 based idevices except for the ATV3. As I understand it, since I only have the Iphone 4 which is A4 mirroring is not quite possible. If you know of some way around this PLEASE share it with me. I know you are busy so I don't expect you to respond immediately but I sure hope you do.

S7 I believe u may be able to have better results by changing settings in airparrot. There is a huge difference between extended mode or mirroring mode and the resolution also plays a part, HD vs normal view... Give it a shot.
DeleteThe best results Ive had with airplay and mirroring on atv3 was using ipad with xbmc on it but as u have the iPhone 4 makes it harder I think there was a cydia app for airplay mirroring for the iphone4 but have herd its glitchy. Bonjour works will for airplay and mirroring if you running a htpc of sorts I have an old iPhone 4 somewhere Ill have a play when I get a chance and let you know if i find out anything sorry cant be of more help.

Thanks so much for your input above. I have definitely gotten Airparrot working, that is, mirroring my Vista 64 AMD quad core display to my ATV3 over a GB ethernet network. As you would expect and as Leif mentioned in his post, if I force everything to 720p the display of navigation within XBMC or viewing still pictures via XBMC is quite good on the remote HDTV. This is before trying to watch any video or listen to any audio, just moving throughout XBMC and viewing still photos. When I did play a selection of videos I found that content like animation or things that don't need HD were watchable, most the time. Unfortunately, when trying to watch anything HD, especially if it has DTS/Dolby, things get bad fast and it is completely unwatchable (poor video quality and frequent stalls, audio gets bad with lots of stutter, hiss, pop, etc). I must add a rather important caveat, I have yet to try playing content that I have stored on one of the local 1TB hdd's in my AMD quad core vista 64 system. I have been focused on getting streamed content from the internet that XBMC and all the great XBMC plugins are so darn good at providing. Being able to build a local media library based on content that is streamed from the internet as needed is where I am trying to get too. I will try locally stored media to see if it is any different. I think my next step will be trying one of the micro boxes available and specifically built for running XBMC on Android (G-Box, JynxBox, etc) or maybe a Rasperry Pi that could connect directly to my HDTV so any thoughts along these lines would be much appreciated as well. I will check out all the things mentioned above, if you have additional thoughts on Airparrot or other mirroring options it would be GREATLY appreciated too. I would especially be interested in the Bonjour stuff Mike mentioned as I recently saw some things that led me to believe it could be used to mirror a Vista machine to an ATV3 on its own.
Obviously if a jailbreak for the ATV3, or other way of loading XBMC on it, becomes available I will no longer need either mirroring techniques or alternative hardware platforms to run it.
Until one of the options above work out I will just continue accessing XBMC library and plugins through PS3 Media Server. I get really excellent video and audio regardless of whether it is stored locally or being streamed from the internet. I love my PS3!

will If it was me trying to do that to a atv3 with out a jail break I would use something like YouTube and make privet videos

Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Note: If you do not disconnect the power cable before connecting the micro USB cable, you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list.
DeleteConnect one end of a micro USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
Apple TV (3rd generation) only: Reconnect the power cable to your Apple TV.
Open iTunes on your computer.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

I don't know a shit about this jailbreak but I understand that nowadays jailbreak becoming so hard as apple releasing there updates created by their best developers. I have started to learn this jailbreak so I can use my knowledge to crack down this apple encryption.

Why don't you all jailbreak your iPhone and download "Moviebox" and XBMC through Cydia (Google the sources and add them to Cydia) use the "Mirror Device Function" for your iPhone,iPod Touch,iPad to your Apple Tv 3, until the jailbreak for Apple Tv 3 comes to light, that's what i have been doing.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure you looked into this, but i was just curious as to how Apple pushes new apps onto the ATV 3? Without are control. Like when they did the conference on the retina display for the new macbooks. They pushed a app onto all the ATV's to watch it. Is it possible to push apps on there that we want? Hook up a Ethernet cord to the ATV and somehow push it to the ATV that way? It's probably not that simple. But i was just curious.
